Introduction
The International Continence Society (ICS) first defined the
term ‘urodynamic studies’ in 1988.
Components of urodynamic testing include
a physical assessment along with representative uroflowmetry with post void residual (PVR),
transurethral cystometry and
a pressureflow study.
Bladder Diary
The initial bladder diary is a useful, non-invasive method
of obtaining objective information on fluid intake, episodes
of incontinence and urgency, pad usage and timings of volumes voided.
All patients presenting with LUT symptoms(LUTS) should complete this diary.
Indications
Urodynamic observations are performed to confirm or refute
a diagnosis and identify all factors contributing to the causes
of the LUTS.
