Appearance of secondary sexual characteristic prior to 8years of age is known as precocious puberty.
incidence is 1:5000- 1:10000
Female : Male is 10:1
Can be premature adrenarche, premature thelarche , central precocious puberty ,peripheral precocious puberty
1. Premature Adrenarche
Due to increase Adrenal androgens
Associated with increased BMI
Check for signs of virilization- clitoral enlargement, severe acne, increased muscle mass
If signs of virilization is present consider one of the following
1. Virilizing ovarian rumor
2. Virilizing adrenal tumor
3. Late onset congenital adrenal hyperplasia
2. Premature Tdust growth
breast growth Tends to appear earlier than 8 yrs of age
